NJ 25-Year-Old Woman Killed In Icy Crash On I-295, PA State Police Say

A 25-year-old woman was killed and a man was seriously injured after a crash on Interstate 295 Eastbound in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The crash happened around 8:52 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at mile marker 5.7 of I-295 Eastbound, according to state police.

Samantha Kaitlin Cote, of High Bridge, New Jersey, was driving a 2007 Toyota Matrix on the ramp from US-1 Southbound to I-295 Eastbound when she lost control of her car after hitting a patch of ice, investigators said.

Cote's vehicle swerved right, then left, hitting a metal guide rail before spinning 180 degrees into the travel lanes. Her car was struck by a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Ryan Murray, of Washington Crossing, police said.

Cote’s vehicle came to rest on the shoulder, while Murray's car stopped in the right lane. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, state police noted.

Cote was pronounced dead at Saint Mary’s Medical Center by Dr. Kaye. Murray was transported to the same hospital with suspected serious injuries, police said.

The crash caused significant front-end damage to Cote's vehicle. No airbags deployed, police said.

Assisting agencies included Pendel-Middletown EMS, the Langhorne Fire Department, PennDOT, and Scrappy’s Towing.
